Let’s be honest: As a tanker shipping company, we’re a part of the environmental issue, yet we are also a part of the solution.

At Maersk Tankers, we work constantly to improve our environmental performance, setting high but achievable targets such as a 15% relative reduction in CO2 emissions by 2015.

Going beyond mere compliance, we want to lead our industry in environmental performance by continuing to identify and implement new ways of using resources efficiently, lowering emissions and mitigating environmental risk.
One initiative we’re involved in is BP’s virtual arrival, a project launched to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions.

The strategy is the same for all business units within A.P. Moller-Maersk and requires us to pursue greater efficiency through innovation and technological advances – with the aim of using natural resources more efficiently and with less impact on the environment.

Working with innovation

Innovation is a fundamental part of modern business. If you don't innovate, you stand still. And in today’s world, standing still means going backwards as others keep moving ahead. At Maersk, we have a dedicated innovation department consisting of a team of marine engineers and naval architects who work on all sorts of 'outside the box' projects.

A strong focus is energy efficiency, which goes hand in hand with improved environmental performance.
